In many homes the best location for the transformer is the basement. Fig. 7 illustrates how the transformer can be located on an outlet box in the basement while the wiring is run to the front and back doors and the bell-buzzer unit. Low voltage bell wire can be run along the baseboard and around door frames and held in place with insulated staples. Such bell wire is neither expensive nor unsightly.
Always select a transformer with over-load protection on the secondary or low voltage wiring. Built in protection of this type serves to cut the current off when trouble occurs in the transformer.
